Writing good quality articles for your site is one of the most popular ways internet marketers get assured of high traffic. And the articles need not be written by well known authors. In fact, you do not even have to be a professional writer either.

There are people these days who write articles in English, even when they studied it as a third language. All you need is a high school education to be able to write articles.

Keywords which have reasonable competition are the words to target first. Keywords with a high amount of competition should be targeted once your site has started to get traffic. If you are tracking how your visitors are finding your site, for example directly through the search engines, you can then expand on those keywords to boost your ranking.

Once you are sure you have a good selection of keywords, you are now going to write your articles, which need a structure. The basic rule of writing articles is that the keyword must appear in your title as well as in the content about 3 to 5 times. Now this isn’t a hard fast rule that you must follow, but from my own experience it’s worked for me in the markets I target.

The reason why it’s good idea to include the keyword in the title is that this gives a clue to the search engines to pick up your article. If you use the keyword too many times in the article, the search engines may give it a lower quality score and ultimately a lower ranking.

To get a high rank, the search engines do not want the keyword to be inserted a hundred times. The primary intention of search engines is to provide the reader with good quality information not something which reads gibberish.

Your writing style should be easy and clear. Keep the paragraphs short so that people find it easy to glance through your article.

Remember the basic purpose is to get the visitor to read your article and not get bored. That is the reason the word count should be limited to about 500 words for articles posted directly on your site. It is neither too short nor too long and will not easily bore the reader. If it’s much longer then split into multiple articles.

One thing you might want to try, if you also post to article directories promoting your site, write articles with around 300 words. With a compelling author box and a call to action, it will likely boost your click-though rate due to reader wanting more.
