Don’t Always Charge for your Products

Do I charge for most of my products? The answer is yes I do, but there are certain times and certain products that will make you a boatload if you don’t.

I create every product with the mindset that I’m going to charge for it. That ensures that I don’t cut any corners and still provide a great product and ensures the quality is high.

You see, that is what will separate your product from other free products. A lot of people will think about it being a free product while they’re in the development process and I believe the quality of their product will suffer because of that.

So why do we want to offer the product for free? There may be a lot of reasons for doing this. The main reason is that a person wants to extend the reach of their product. In other words, a person wants more eyeballs on the product or more people to go through the process a person has setup, in order to, get the product.

One thing that you can do is put affiliate links through out in infomation products, at key areas. Just make sure that the products or services are good and that they augment your product and expand upon it.

Another thing that you can do is take advantage of the process that it takes for them to access your free product. Set up a page where you capture their name and email address, so you can add them to your mailing list.

If that’s all you want to do, then fine just set up a capture page and after they sign up redirect them to the download page. There are even more things that you can do, however.

Instead of having them go directly to the download page after they signup for your mailing list, you can redirect them somewhere else before they go to the download page. You can take them to a one-time-offer page instead.

You might have another product or service that is relevant to the product that you’re giving away for free. You simply redirect them to this one-time-offer sales page after they signup for your mailing list. If they buy, great, then give them access to everything, if they don’t provide a link at the bottom where they can simply go to the download page of your free product.

Online software which you can also give away, is probably my favorite more then another. Why?

Let’s assume the software features are of great value to the end user, so people are actually interested in it! For you, it has multiple advantages long term…

It builds a mailing list.
It can have a “powered by” footer link, which points to your site(s) for link juice.
It can have a feed directly inside the software to post news from your website.
It can have affiliate promotional or paid advertisers links.
It can have upgrade options (more features) where you make your sales.
It can have a option to remove the “powered by” link, more sales.

These are just a few things when providing free online software. One software product of mine, which I created back in 2006 still today makes sales, is building a mailing list etc. And it’s completely automated!
