Know Thy Adwords Competitors

Knowing your competition is critically important for anyone who is in the marketing profession - be it online or offline. For online marketers, this knowledge is especially relevant if you are running an adwords campaign.

To analyze your competitor’s adword campaign is to check their quality score. This is important as it tells you how much they pay as well as their rankings.

Do this by finding out the relevance of their ad by going to their landing page. See whether they connect to the ad, of course, there are various other points also which you can analyze about your competitor.

The whole purpose of analyzing your competitor is to seek out their weakness and build on it. This is somewhat like a game of chess. Know thy opponent and what makes him tick. Put yourself in a winning situation through adequate research. Once you know what makes your opponent successful, do precisely that, perhaps improving upon it further.

The essential point to remember here are that you’re using adwords to make money and not fighting for a higher rank. Ultimately you have to adopt the best strategy that does best for your business.

The other thing to know about your competitor is their level of seriousness. This applies especially for your direct competitors. There is some serious competition with adwords but they do not bother me as they are not directly related to my range of products. Then there are irrelevant ads, which also do not bother me that much.

Your competitors are those who are either affiliates or someone who has a website which is similar to yours. These are the people to keep an eye on.

Their ad expenditure is something you need to find out. Also see if there is any special time of the day that their ads appear. Some people choose specific times of the day, considering peak traffic.

Remember, every adword campaign is unique and every type of competition poses a challenge which is also unique. If you are the king of a certain keyword phrase, you must know what your competitors are doing with that keyword phrase and how to combat this type of competitor at the earliest opportunity.

One way to help get the upper hand is to actually spy on the active ads for your keywords! you can find out what ads are the most likely profitable campaigns. So you can then analyze those ads and their landing pages to then improve your own!
