Niche Marketing Research #1

In this first installment of niche marketing examples, we’re going to randomly pick out a niche and see what we can do with it. Mind you, I have no knowledge of any of these niches. So the examples here are what I would do if I were starting something from scratch.

Okay, our first niche is going to be Bed Bugs. Now, we’re eventually going to narrow this down to a sub niche that is manageable. Why? Well, let’s take a look at what we’re up against with just the keyword Bed Bugs.

If we use WordTracker in NichBot and create a list of keywords, we come up with a daily predicted search of 1,853. That’s quite a few. But, if we then go to Google and look to see how many pages there are with the word Bed Bugs in them, we come up with over 1.5 million pages. Do you think maybe we might have a bit of trouble working our way into this niche with that many results? I would think it would take sometime. But, we’re going to dig a little deeper, if one exists, that will give us a fighting shot at some income.

In going through the list of like keywords, I found that there were 67 predicted daily searches for “how to get rid of bed bugs”. When I then went to Google to see how many competing sites, I saw that there were only 9,580 competing sites. I realized that I might have something.

Why did I dig deeper? the main search term Bed Bugs is too broad, people could be looking for all kinds of information. I’m looking for a long tail search term that people are searching for to help solve a problem. Straight away, I know the keyword phrase “how to get rid of bed bugs” is obviously something people are desperate to solve!

The next thing we want to do is get ourselves a web site for our niche. So we can go to NameCheap or wherever and look up a few names. The first one I came up with was getridofbedbugs.com. It wasn’t available so I would simply of for the .net or .org and viola. I had a web site. No, I didn’t register it so you can still get it.

Now I need to monetize, first I need to do a quick search for affiliate programs for tangible items such as sprays etc. And yes there is plenty of products to promote. The other thing I forgot to mention above, there is a good amount of adwords ads for the keyword phrase. So I would setup a campaign to spy on using Ads Detective, to find which is likely to be the most profitable.

I also found a private label rights ebook for the exact keyword phrase and also includes a 5 part ecourse, bingo!

This saves me paying a ghostwriter, I would change a few things around and rename the ebook as well. Signup to 1-2 of the affiliate programs, adding a few text/banner ads into the ebook to promote them.

Next, is create a list of keyword phrases and write some articles. Setup a WordPress blog on the new domain, then post the majority of the articles on the blog and then submit the remaining to EzineArticles.com

I would then setup a landing page promoting the free 5 part ecourse and promote the ebook on the backend :)

The more I researched this, the more it looks an almost wide open market. Very little upfront costs, if you do this correctly, you can make a nice income from this niche.
