The Do’s and Don’ts of Opt-In Lists

Here’s a few things to keep in mind when building a opt-in list…

Do
1. Make subscription easy- If you want people to subscribe to your Opt-In list, make it easy for them. Have a large Opt-In box on your webpage and provide huge incentives to make it easier for a prospect to decide to give you their email address.

2. Add a subscription link to your email signature-
You send emails everyday, so add a subscription link to the bottom of your emails. Encourage existing subscribers to forward your email to their friends, and have a subscription link at the bottom.

3. Double Opt-In- If you get a subscription from your website, send that person a confirmation email. This will help protect you from accusations of sending out spam.

4. Have a business card-
Despite the fact that you are working online, don’t forget offline prospects. Have a business card with your subscription link to give to these offline prospects.

5. Tell people why they should subscribe to your Opt-In list- You should ensure that you do all you can to ensure that prospects subscribe to your Opt-In list. Tell them exactly how they will benefit to ensure that they will want to subscribe.

6. Have ready prepared welcome notes- After someone has subscribed to your list, make sure you get in touch with these prospects quickly to ensure they do not forget about you.

Don’t
1. Add everyone who has every emailed you to your Opt-In list-
Doing this is a very quick way to get shut down for spamming. Just because you have conversed with someone doesn’t make them a subscriber.

2. Purchase lists-
You shouldn’t purchase lists for a couple of reasons- they are not targeted, and you cannot absolutely be assured that they have actually opted-in to receive emails.

3. Abuse the trust of your subscribers- Absolutely DO NOT on-sell your list to other Internet marketers.
